New badges and equipment – and a treat for youngsters – are on the cards for two local Brownie units which have received donations from the Royal Cheshire County Show.

The 1st Darnhall and 2nd Middlewich Brownie units have each received a £250 donation from the Show for their voluntary service in assisting Show staff to collate judges results from across the Tabley Showground.

Little Owl Ann Hignett of 1st Darnhall said: “They do all the running around across the showground.

“They take the judge’s results from the various sections across to the Secretary Marquee for processing.

“We can have between 10 to 20 Brownies helping and of course, we give them breaks so that they can get about and enjoy what’s on offer at the Show.

“We’re over the moon [with the donation] – it’s brilliant.

“In running Brownies there are always expenses such as hire of the hall, insurance and badges.

“We’ll make sure they get a treat as well.”

The donation was also appreciated by the 2nd Middlewich unit.

Brown Owl Gwen Hughes said: “We feel privileged to be asked back, year after year, to the Show.

“It’s an honour to be thought of in such high regard and I always tell the Brownies ‘this is one of the most important jobs on the site’.”

Nigel Evans, Royal Cheshire County Show Executive Director, said: “We have been so well supported by 1st Darnhall and 2nd Middlewich Brownie units who have each performed this essential service at the Show for more than 30 years.

“The donation is a small token to show our appreciation.

“We sincerely hope the friendship between the Show and the Brownies continues long into the future.”
