Pony Club Mounted Games

The Mounted Games received recognition as a result of the inauguration in 1957 of the Pony Club Mounted Games Championship when a Perpetual Challenge Cup, known as ‘The Prince Philip Cup’ was presented by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG. This is awarded by the winning Pony Club Team at the Horse of the Year Show in October each year.

Although the Mounted Games at the Cheshire Show are not part of the Prince Philip Cup Competition itself, they will be run under the same rules and along similar lines as a two-day tournament. The object of the games is to provide young riders with an opportunity to compete on good and well-trained ponies, which are not necessarily of high quality or great value. They also encourage the riders to train their ponies to be obedient and themselves to become active, practical horsemen who will compete with determination and enthusiasm.

The winning team at The Royal Cheshire Show will be presented with “The Jean Hough Memorial Trophy,” kindly donated by the Hough family in 1977.
